Roullete, or Roulette, is one of the most popular casino games in the world. It originated in France and has been around for hundreds of years.
The game itself is a simple one – the croupier throws a ball into a wheel. Eventually, it lands in a pocket marked with a number and if you made a bet on that number, you win!
A Roulette wheel consists of a solid, slightly convex wooden disk with metal partitions that are known as separators or frets. Thirty-six compartments are painted alternately red and black, and a 37th compartment is painted green for the double zero (or 00 in American terminology).
When the ball enters the wheel it bounces about and settles into one of these pockets. The croupier then announces the winning number and takes your money.
There are many different types of bets on a Roulette wheel, and each offers a different chance to win. The most common are the split bet, the street bet and the six-number bet or “sixain” in French.
The Split Bet: Also referred to as a cheval in French, this bet involves placing your chips on a line that divides two rows of numbers on the layout. If any of the numbers in the line win, you’ll receive a payout of 17-1.
The Street Bet: This bet is similar to the split bet, but you place your chips on a row of three consecutive numbers. If any of those three numbers wins, you’ll receive a payout of 11-1.
Another bet that straddles the line is the six-number bet, or “sixain” in French. Here you place your chips on two adjacent lines of three numbers each, for a total of six.
A Roulette wheel combines all the best features of other casino games, such as the slot machine, the dice, and the card game blackjack, to create a single product that has been praised for its simplicity and excitement. It’s a great game for beginners, and can be played with little or no skill.
